Hello, my name is Becki and I am Sherlock addict. OK, maybe that is not totally correct. I love Mr. Holmes in any incarnation…period. Nicholas Rowe as Young Sherlock…did anyone really think someone could portray the detective better than Robert Downey, Jr? Not me. Until I watched Benedict Cumberbatch in the role. I still love the others, but I think the modern day setting really works with Cumberbatch’s portrayal of Holmes to take the #1 slot. I will say that Martin Freeman is by far my favorite Watson…ever. Of course, he gets extra points for being Bilbo too. How cool would it be if Bilbo replaced Watson to help Sherlock?!? Sorry, my geek is showing. 😉
The mugs were picked up at the Dollar Tree, the vinyl was on hand. So, this project cost me $2 and some change plus time. Lots of time as I scoured the internet for the perfect silhouette picture. I wanted one with all of Sherlock’s curly locks showing. It’s my favorite feature, so shoot me. I can’t remember the exact font other than it’s a Kimberly Geswein one. It was the closest I could get to the show’s title that was already installed. I had spent too much time looking for the best pictures, I wasn’t going to waste more on copying the font. It matches well enough. I was geeking out when I had finished. They look sooo good! Such handsome profiles, don’t you think?
Supplies:
- 2 mugs in color of your choosing
- silhouettes to trace into your cutting program (I didn’t link as they were not my pictures)
- matching font
- outdoor vinyl (holds up better to washing)
Tips: If you use indoor vinyl, you must hand wash. I have heard outdoor vinyl can go into the top rack of the dishwasher. Add a little curve to your designs. That way they will wrap around the cup better and you won’t get any lift. Make the Cut is the only program I know of that can do this automatically.
