Advent Calendar Pad

November 21, 2012 by Rebecca Wagner 4 Comments

I saw this really cool idea at Michaels the other day. An Advent Calendar pad by Recollections.  It was $5!  No thanks. I figured I was crafty enough to make one myself.  I mean, I have the Club Teacher subscription from Lettering Delights.  I have pretty much everything their website stocks so I should be able to whip one of these up super quick!

First I decided what graphics I was going to use.  This would be a Print n’ Cut project that will work up pretty quick.  I really liked the frame and banner from the Little Ho-Ho-Ho-ligan Accent set. I made a 3.735″ x 3.125″ mat for the graphics in Silhouette Studio Designer Edition.

For the countdown numbers and words, I choose the Owlphabet alphabet.  I think it had just the kitschy look I was going for. I was able to fit four of these blocks to a page. If you do not have a machine that do the PnC, these would be easy to hand cut as well since they are just rectangles.

The next step in getting this Advent Calendar to be a tear-away pad was to slop some notepad glue (or padding compound) across the top. Seeing as I do not have any of this special glue, I made some. Hey, it’s a DIY project, why not go all the way right?!? I found the instructions on Pinterest and just so happened to have all the ingredients on hand. I love it when a plan comes together! I put three thick coats on after clamping and let dry overnight.

I wanted this to sit on a desk and needed to make an easel back. I made one out of chipboard. It’s not fancy but I am not giving this away either. I have a cut file for one but I couldn’t find it while making this so a “not so pretty” one will have to do. If any one picks it up to look at the back, fair warning – you’re getting a smacked hand!

Here it is in all it’s glory! Can I brag and say I really, really love it? It’s such a cool idea. Now add to that I know how to make and have a lifetime supply of padding compound, it’s even better. I am in the process of making a free printable blog planner with it I found at Infarrantly Creative and a friend improved upon with colorful chevrons. I am thinking I can find all sorts of use for it. This is going to be a real crafty Christmas!

Foil lovers... we heard you. Since our foil equi Foil lovers... we heard you.

Since our foil equipment went down, the messages and emails have not stopped. We know how much you love the look and honestly we love it too.

Replacing commercial foil equipment runs into the tens of thousands of dollars and, like a lot of small businesses right now, that's just not realistic.

After months of testing with our existing setup, we think we found a way to bring foil back.

It's not mass factory perfect. Occasionally there may be a tiny spot where the foil doesn't pull 100%. Nothing obvious, nothing we wouldn't personally use, and nothing that doesn't meet our standards will ship.

But overall? We think it looks pretty gorgeous.

Before we officially bring foil back…

Would you still want it knowing it's handcrafted and not machine perfect?

Tell me honestly in the comments. Your feedback will decide this one.

Personal Size planners get a bad rap for one reaso Personal Size planners get a bad rap for one reason…

They’re narrow.

And I get it.
Personal is the perfect middle ground. Bigger than Pocket, fits in your purse, but way more portable than A5.

But the width?
That’s always been the complaint.

Lately I’ve been seeing people try to squeeze Personal Wide into standard Personal binders… and then wonder why the pages stick out.

So instead of making it wider… I went the other direction.

Foldouts.

For 2026, I reworked the layout to give you more planning space without changing the footprint.

Month on one page
Straight into your weekly
Dashboard space (because you know I had to keep that)
And when it’s folded?
Standard Personal Size. Fits your binder like it should.

Now I need your opinion before I finalize this…
