Since I’ve Been Gone or Our Move to Texas

ohio to texas map

Oh man, it’s been almost two months since I have posted. I am so sorry, but I have a good excuse.  Since we are now empty-nesters, the hubby decided we should move to Texas.  Wait, what?!? Texas? Where did that come from? I wondered if he realized Texas was 1200 miles away from our friends, church family, and most importantly, our children.  That long, crazy winter we had last year might have had something to do with it. Or maybe it was our kids that drove him south. Who really knows. 🙂

Life always seems so crazy for us. We have been super busy driving around, checking out areas of the city we would like to live. I just now got my computer set up and feel like I am connected to the world again. Unfortunately, all of our belongings are still in storage in Ohio. So, I don’t have any of my craft materials to keep busy. Who knew I would miss my cutting machines so much?

It stinks because we are living in a hotel for the unforeseeable future without much to do except sit by the pool. Oh wait, that doesn’t stink too much. 🙂 I just came from Ohio where we will swim in 70 degree water. I’m thinking I will utilize the pool a lot longer than most of the people down here. I should have the pool all to myself for most of October. Ha!

Downtown Galveston

If life couldn’t get any more crazy, new employer told hubby he needs him working out of San Antonio for a few months. So off we go even further south. I tell ya, it’s a good thing we hesitated about getting an apartment before moving to Houston. I was worried about not having a place, but it would have been such wasted money. I just love how the Lord works everything out and leads us in the right direction when we ask for wisdom in our lives. If you are the praying kind, please keep us in your prayers. We are seeking the Lord’s will and wisdom for us in this new stage of our life.

We actually had time to finally take a real vacation that didn’t include going to a relatives house. Not that I mind spending time with family, it just doesn’t feel like a real vacation. Usually that means there is work to be done by us like putting siding on, painting the ceiling, working on cars, or something just as energy draining. You go home just as tired as when you left.

Gulf-of-Mexico-at-Galveston

We spent a week on the Gulf of Mexico in Galveston when we first hit Texas. It was nice to see the Gulf again. We met in Fort Walton Beach, Florida close to 23 years ago. One of our first dates was hanging out with friends watching the waves roll in from the Gulf on the sugar sand beach. Galveston doesn’t have the white sand of Fort Walton, but it was nice and relaxing nonetheless. Even with Galveston being a small island, there is plenty to do. I enjoyed seeing all the old houses including the Moody Mansion and the Bishop’s Palace. Oh, what it would be like to live in those houses!

Pleasure Pier

We went to almost every tourist attraction except the Pleasure Pier. I was a little disappointed, but hubby assures me we will be taking another trip to the beach when everything settles down. Maybe then I will get to eat at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and eat seafood until I puke! I guess he will have to take me to the Alamo and the Riverwalk this weekend while we are in San Antonio to keep me busy. Maybe even get him to drive to South Padre Island to take horseback rides on the beach? My birthday is coming up after all.

Any of you southerns have tips for this cold weather, fast talking northern girl? Places we need to visit? Foods we need to try? Tips for beating the summer heat? I know it’s Fall already but I have a feeling next year is going to kill me if the mild day in Galveston almost did me in.

I was scared to leave Ohio and everything I was used too to move to Texas. But life changes, we need to roll with the punches. I’m sure the Lord has great things in store for us. Maybe it will make me more creative down here, there is lots of beautiful inspiration in the sand and sea!

Welcome to Texas!! Make sure and go to Austin and eat as much Mexican food as you can.
You will love our winters but the summers can be brutal.
And if you come north make sure and visit Fort Worth. It is a great city!!

Thanks, Marilyn! I am already loving the warm weather going into October as my friends up north are being visited by 40 degree nights. 🙂

We are definitely going to try to hit as much of Texas as we can now that it’s just the two of us.

Personal Size planners get a bad rap for one reaso Personal Size planners get a bad rap for one reason…

They’re narrow.

And I get it.
Personal is the perfect middle ground. Bigger than Pocket, fits in your purse, but way more portable than A5.

But the width?
That’s always been the complaint.

Lately I’ve been seeing people try to squeeze Personal Wide into standard Personal binders… and then wonder why the pages stick out.

So instead of making it wider… I went the other direction.

Foldouts.

For 2026, I reworked the layout to give you more planning space without changing the footprint.

Month on one page
Straight into your weekly
Dashboard space (because you know I had to keep that)
And when it’s folded?
Standard Personal Size. Fits your binder like it should.

Now I need your opinion before I finalize this…

Since the Coach notebooks are sold out, I grabbed this leather cover on Amazon to test the fit.
Good news: it fits beautifully (and it’s roomy enough for tabs).

Bad news?
I got excited and didn’t read the whole listing.

No snap.
No elastic.
Just vibes.

Luckily I’ve got elastic on hand… but consider this your reminder from someone who learned the hard way:

Read the full listing, friends.

Sometimes the best combinations aren’t planned… they just happen.

The Aquarelle Sky cover paired with Candy Rush tabs turned out to be one of those moments. The colors line up so perfectly, it looks like they were made for each other.

Just a little unexpected color magic.
