Really Simple Fourth of July Decor

July 7, 2011 by Rebecca Wagner 2 Comments

I know, I know, it’s a little late to be showing Fourth of July projects. Just call me a slacker. I told you I was busy having a nice little vacation.  Quite relaxing!

My pictures came out with harsh shadows.  We have an energy saving film on our windows that makes getting any natural light impossible.  I have to work pretty hard to get any decent photos.  Been looking into different solutions, hopefully I can fix the situation soon.

On to the projects – I normally don’t decorate too much for any holiday or season except for Christmas.  That’s when I go all out.  So I didn’t go too big for my Fourth decor.  With family visiting soon, finishing up school and work, time is kind of limited right now for us.  So, I don’t remember where I saw the paper roll rockets.  Although this craft is pretty well known all over the internet,  I can’t narrow down where I saw it.

On to the files I used – The tops for the rockets are a drink umbrella SVG.  Again, don’t remember where I got it.  (Man, it stinks getting old!)  The stars for the streamers are just a basic shape from Make the Cut gallery that I cut 24 out in two different papers.  The paper is all from the Nantucket stack from DCWV.

Pretty simple assembly – Wrap a 6×4 piece of paper around the roll, gluing as you go.  Take the umbrella and glue it onto itself to make a point.  Thread mono-filament through the top and body.  Make sure you have a knot somewhere on thread to catch under the top to hang. Adhere top to roll.  While I had my son hold the rocket I started gluing the red and blue stars together on the hanging filament.  It looks so cute, like the rocket is jetting off and leaving stars behind.
Then just fix a couple of strips of ribbon to add to the streaming effect.  Wa-lah, you’re done!  Cute and simple.

Now, no rocket would be complete without some really big stars to zoom past.  The SVG I used for these was a free file from Lettering Delights that they gave away a while ago.  So long ago, I don’t remember.  😛  I made one in red, white and blue out of the Nantucket stack again.  It is really a pretty stack.  Although some of the blues are rather purple-ish.  These are about 9 inches high and hanging with the rockets as soon as you come in my front door.  The pictures you see here are not their final resting place.  It was easier to take photos with all the rockets closer together.

So, this is the extent of my decorating this holiday.  Kids didn’t mind too much as they were busy eating Jell-O in the shape of a flag.  Hit me up if you have a question or comment on me being a slacker!  I deserve it.  ^__^  Have a great day and happy crafting!

So we've been asked about junk journals with divid So we've been asked about junk journals with dividers, and I thought... why not? We had some gorgeous colored paper sitting around and I figured let's see if anybody else wants one.

This is our 5x8 Junk Journal. Handmade right here in Kentucky with colorful paper, printed patterns, white pages, some cardstock, chipboard covers, and a chunky spiral coil. Every single one is a different mix, so no two are alike.

The best part? You can add chipboard tab dividers to organize your sections however you want. Available with or without dividers. Free shipping, always.

Right now it's only in our Etsy shop. Link in bio.

And since I'm already playing with colored paper again... we're seriously thinking about bringing it back for our ring binder and disc-bound planner inserts too. Would you want that? Tell me in the comments.

Foil lovers... we heard you. Since our foil equi Foil lovers... we heard you.

Since our foil equipment went down, the messages and emails have not stopped. We know how much you love the look and honestly we love it too.

Replacing commercial foil equipment runs into the tens of thousands of dollars and, like a lot of small businesses right now, that's just not realistic.

After months of testing with our existing setup, we think we found a way to bring foil back.

It's not mass factory perfect. Occasionally there may be a tiny spot where the foil doesn't pull 100%. Nothing obvious, nothing we wouldn't personally use, and nothing that doesn't meet our standards will ship.

But overall? We think it looks pretty gorgeous.

Before we officially bring foil back…

Would you still want it knowing it's handcrafted and not machine perfect?

Tell me honestly in the comments. Your feedback will decide this one.
