Refrigerator Chalkboard

June 18, 2012 by Rebecca Wagner 6 Comments

Welcome to another round of Becki’s crafty corner.  Where I am all about trying out the new (to me) crafty materials available.  This month has just been one of firsts.  First time using rhinestones now chalkboard vinyl!  I have always wanted to try it out but just couldn’t think of a project to use it with.  My kids are older so it wouldn’t do any good in our classroom.  But, with our busy life, I really could use something to get the attention of the kids and hubby when they are raiding the fridge.  Why not put the chalkboard on there!?!I went looking for the perfect file for my chalkboard.  I found this Framette by Boss Kut Die-Cuts.  I know this is going to sound weird but this framette reminds me of the cool talking wardrobe from Beauty and the Beast.  That’s probably why I like it so much!

As you can probably tell, it doesn’t look exactly like the file pictured at Boss Kut’s website.  I never use files they way they are intended and always have to mess with them.  If I had used it as is, I wouldn’t have been able to keep the beautiful scroll work with this vinyl.  I also wanted a little color.  So I took the scroll frame and made a shadow, that makes the whole back one piece.  I then cut the top swirly scroll out of a piece of scrapbook paper that matches my kitchen.  Now in order for the paper to not get yucky when we wipe the board off, I covered it in Mod Podge before gluing it to the base vinyl.

My new chalkboard in action!  Of course, I would use pink chalk right?  I have one of those Chalk Ink Wet Wipe markers in Piggy Bank Pink.  I put a small piece of Velcro on the side of the fridge and the pen so it is readily available.

How do you like my memo board?  It’s in the perfect place in our house, the most used area – the fridge.  Have any other ideas where placing a chalkboard would be a good idea?  Let me know in the comments.  I would love to hear other ideas.

Very cute! I was thinking of other places that might work… inside of a standard medicine cabinet you could decorate it with the vinyl for let’s say…messages to hubby ir kids…or items to buy for the bathroom.

Another could be on storage jars…vases for flowers and a message…and finally I thought of the large mirrored closet doors we have. My 9 y.o. stepson would probably LOVE to draw on a wide surface like that…tic tac toe games!!

Foil lovers... we heard you. Since our foil equi Foil lovers... we heard you.

Since our foil equipment went down, the messages and emails have not stopped. We know how much you love the look and honestly we love it too.

Replacing commercial foil equipment runs into the tens of thousands of dollars and, like a lot of small businesses right now, that's just not realistic.

After months of testing with our existing setup, we think we found a way to bring foil back.

It's not mass factory perfect. Occasionally there may be a tiny spot where the foil doesn't pull 100%. Nothing obvious, nothing we wouldn't personally use, and nothing that doesn't meet our standards will ship.

But overall? We think it looks pretty gorgeous.

Before we officially bring foil back…

Would you still want it knowing it's handcrafted and not machine perfect?

Tell me honestly in the comments. Your feedback will decide this one.

Personal Size planners get a bad rap for one reaso Personal Size planners get a bad rap for one reason…

They’re narrow.

And I get it.
Personal is the perfect middle ground. Bigger than Pocket, fits in your purse, but way more portable than A5.

But the width?
That’s always been the complaint.

Lately I’ve been seeing people try to squeeze Personal Wide into standard Personal binders… and then wonder why the pages stick out.

So instead of making it wider… I went the other direction.

Foldouts.

For 2026, I reworked the layout to give you more planning space without changing the footprint.

Month on one page
Straight into your weekly
Dashboard space (because you know I had to keep that)
And when it’s folded?
Standard Personal Size. Fits your binder like it should.

Now I need your opinion before I finalize this…
