Best Friends Bag

December 28, 2011 by Rebecca Wagner 3 Comments

Since some of my friends actually think I am crafty, one of them asked if I would jazz up a bag she was purchasing from the Thirty-One party I hosted back in November.  Really, she didn’t want to purchase it without making sure I could do it.  ^__^

She was buying two of the bag above for her daughter and her friend.  Only thing was, they wouldn’t add the names AND the sentiment.  So I told her to get the names and I would add the “Best Friends.”  I think it came out really cute.

I used the freezer paper method to add the sentiment.  If you are not familiar with this, it is very simple.  Freezer paper has two sides, one shiny and the other matte.  The shiny is the one that, when ironed, will temporarily stick to material.

All you have to do is cut (by die-cutter or hand) a design onto the paper, iron on and proceed to sponge fabric paint in the color of your choosing.  If you are using a electronic die-cut machine, make sure your paper is placed matte side down on your carrier sheet.  The shiny side will not stick. Oh and don’t forget to make sure your design is mirrored.  That way when you iron it down, it will be facing the right way.

A quick note on the paint too.  I use to paint quite a bit with acrylics, so I have a ton of them.  So as not to go to waste, I purchased some FolkArt(R) Acrylic Textile Mediumthat mixes with the paint to make them safe on fabrics.  So, if you have regular acrylic paint but no fabric, buy the textile medium and use what you already have lying around to save some money.

After the paint is dry, carefully peel off the freezer paper and you have a new and improved bag!  LOL  If you peel it off before it is totally dry, it really isn’t that big of a deal.  But it is better to be safe than sorry.  I know it can be exciting to see something completed that you worked hard on.

Here is the finished project.  What do you think?  The girls were able to open these on Christmas.  I am waiting to hear from my friend on how they liked them.  I really hope they enjoy carrying around all those heavy college books in their new stylish bags.

If you like the bag and want to know more about it or check out Thirty-One Gifts other offerings, here is the link.  Be forewarned, it is not the easiest website to navigate.  I just want to say, I am not affiliated with them in any way except one of their consultants is my good friend and coffee buddy.   ^__^

Thanks for stopping by and happy crafting!

Testing top tab durability in our spiral 6x8 noteb Testing top tab durability in our spiral 6x8 notebook.
These are Crimson Luxe top tabs in two versions: one with reinforced holes, one without.

The goal here is simple:
How well do they hold up when you pop them in, move them around, and reposition dividers as needed?

Early takeaway?
These aren’t meant to be shuffled around constantly like a disc planner. This is more of a place-them-with-intention, then let them live there situation.

I’m testing both versions to see what actually holds up in real use, not just what looks good in photos.
More notes once I’ve abused them a little more. 😏

If this works… I may have just solved a problem that’s been living rent-free in my head.

No promises yet, but I’m cautiously optimistic and slightly smug about it. 💅📒✨

White plastic coil, slim cardboard backing so it slides right into the pocket, and cardstock covers — personalized, not coated.

Alien cover = Monthly Deluxe (with lined pages in back).
Bookshelf cover = Weekly Horizontal Compact.

We did have to cut the deluxe notes section to keep everything on a smaller coil (so the weekly fits), but we’re still testing what else we can add… including a special feature I’m not spilling yet.

Trying to make this thing as functional as humanly possible — stay tuned. 👀✨

Testing something new… 👀 Our A5 Coach noteboo Testing something new… 👀
Our A5 Coach notebook is finally getting the glow-up she deserves, and we’re playing with different refill styles to see what fits, flips, and feels right inside that TikTok-famous cover.

This spiral beauty is one of the contenders — and yes, we’re this close to having the perfect setup. Stay tuned… it’s all coming together. ✨📚

Who else is ready to upgrade their Coach with something way more functional than the paper it came with?

✨Who’s got the A5 Coach notebook… and who’ ✨Who’s got the A5 Coach notebook… and who’s already hunting for a refill because that lined pad it came with lasted about 12 seconds? 😅

It’s TikTok-famous and cute, but the “calendar” situation? Yeah… we can do better.

We’re in testing mode to create actually gorgeous refills for it — monthlies, weeklies, and all the pages this thing should have come with in the first place.

Question for you:
👉 What kind of refill would you want first — monthly, weekly, or notes?

Stay tuned. This baby’s about to level up. 📆🌸
