My First Baby Shower

June 8, 2011 by Rebecca Wagner 4 Comments

Decorating one, that is.  🙂 As I get used to this blog thing, I thought I would post a couple pictures of a project I did for one of our church members who is having a baby girl.  We were asked if we would like to help with food or decorations.  I said “yes” to the decorations seeing as I have a few cutting machines, a whole lot of paper, supplies and not very fond of cooking anymore.

Baby Bottle card for the win!

Now to just come up with ideas.  Luckily, I follow SVG Cuts.com and they just came out with a new set of SVG files called Bundle of Joy.  It is the perfect set for decorating a shower!

Baby Block

I used the Recollections brand from Michaels and DCWV Nana’s Nursery Baby Girl paper stack that I bought on clearance at Hobby Lobby for a unbelievable price – under $5!  See how the Lord provides!  I needed to stay pretty inexpensive and I did.

Stroller Bag

I made eight of the baby blocks, two rocking horses and one stroller bag.  I would have made more but my Bosskut Gazelle was rebelling.  Wouldn’t you know I never had a problem till I was on a time crunch.  I would have switched to my Silhouette SD but I needed the full 12″ to cut the bags.

Rocking Horse Bag

I was plagued with problems right from the start.  At first, my mat wasn’t sticky enough.  Then it was too sticky.  Had two print jobs stuck in the queue causing it cut funny. Went from using the Funtime software, to Make the Cut and settled on Sure Cuts a Lot 3.  That seemed to be the only program that wanted to cut the files right.  I think the other programs would have worked just fine if I hadn’t had those jobs stuck.  I didn’t realize it till I was almost done.

I love how the bright pink and lime green look

I also made a banner from files I had purchased from Lettering Delights.  I don’t want to tell you how much money I spend at this site.  I will tell you how much I love their files.  I found them six months ago when I still had my Cricut Expression and just purchased the Make the Cut program.  They started out making graphics and fonts for teachers, then went on to license designs to Provo Craft for their Cricut cartridges.  Love their stuff, very adorable!  Now they are changing their graphic sets into SVG files for the digital die cut machines.  Go check them out even if you don’t have a machine.

Baby’s Banner

I used a couple different sets to make the banner.  I couldn’t find the right type of squares that I had pictured in my head.  So I opened my MTC and started designing.  I used a square from basic shapes at 3″ and just welded a circle border from the Basic Borders collection on all four sides.  Looking at my scraps, I just couldn’t bring myself to throw away all those perfect circles.

Homemade Confetti!

Hmmm…what if I made a whole sheet of the circle border in the colors for the shower, I could make confetti.  I had seen a bag of it at Party City and balked at the $4.99 price tag and for a such a small amount.  I also really like the duckie and umbrella I used on the banner.  So I made a whole sheet of those too at .5″ inch high.  I have to say I was really impressed with my Gazelle.  She came through at this height and it looked great. Now I had confetti and some backgrounds for a card.  I even cut the circle sheets to an A2 size, glued about four of them together.  Ta-Da!  I have another embossing folder.  What a way to use the scraps.

Tissue Paper Pom-Poms!

We also decorated the plain white tablecloths with little pregnant women and mom with a baby silhouettes from the Kate’s Silhouettes SVG collection with dresses matching the colors on the plates.

See how they matched the plates?

All in all, the shower came out very well.  The cake was absolutely adorable and everyone pitched in and was a great help.

Side note, I thought I would post the card and onesies I made for the mommy-to-be!

We retired the old gold after too many print headaches (RIP, shiny troublemaker). This new satin finish keeps that luxe vibe but actually shows the lines—no more disappearing print when the light hits it. Sometimes change really is golden.
