Paper Dolls Week Two Challenge – Dollhouse!

June 11, 2011 by Rebecca Wagner 5 Comments

My meager entry

I have to admit it, when I see everything everyone else creates with paper, I am really intimidated.  It takes me days just to decide on a design and another two days to pick out the paper.  Then, when the project is finished I am always extremely disappointed.  It just never comes out the way I see it in my head.  The following project is no different.

I love the Paper Dolls blog and the two ladies who run it – Thienly and Tamara. They are two of the best designers I have ever seen!  So when their call came for more people to enter the Dollhouse challenge, I felt I should just go ahead and do it.   I had nothing to lose (well, maybe a little dignity).

Oh no!  Watch out little guy!  Kitty’s gonna get ya!

The files we were to use came from Patricia at A Little Hut. You must go and grab these free files, even if you don’t want to enter the challenge. It is so adorable.  I’m sure you could find a use for them someday.

Is it fall already?

I think it came out OK.  Not stunning, but it will do, I guess.  And don’t you always hate when you are almost done, something happens and you just want to scream?  My Viva Decor pen then decided to puke on the last flower and make a mess.  He’s in time out right now.  I just hope it’s not that noticeable.

I hate when you can see the glue, ugh

In my head was a more monochromatic theme with just a splash of color.  I used the Fashionably Chic stack by Recollections and my handy, dandy MTC. I wanted to add a girl to the front but its bad enough I have Paul Bunyan’s furniture in the house, I didn’t want to have his wife carrying groceries in too.  I couldn’t get her proportions right.  She kept coming out too small and fat or two-story and extremely thin.  So I nixed her.

I also didn’t want to use the beds that came with the set. I wanted to try a different approach. So I opted for the Good Company SVG set from Lettering Delights. As you can see, I just made the furniture and chandelier in silhouette.

Yeah, it was that idea that looked better in my head.  I man-handled it so much that I distorted the frame. Oops!

Well, there you have it, folks!  My entry.  If you have a questions, comments or concerns, just use the ol’ link below.  Like what you see?  Become a friend (even if you do like it LOL).  I am learning that if I don’t at least try some of these challenges I won’t get any better.  After all, practice makes perfect, right?  Oh wow, I just realized that’s probably why they call them “challenges.”  Duh!

This is awesome! I love all the little additions that you put on it – the cat, the bird and the nest, the tree, flowers/fence… wow! I think this is great! Oh, and the furnitures! Thanks for joining us this week for the Paper Dolls Challenge!

I think this is adorable, but I so understand the feeling of not being able to produce the mental image you dreamed up. I have the same problem. It is hit and miss with me. I try to remind myself that I am creating for the fun of it and it is ok that not everything I make can keep up with my creative imagination 🙂
