Hopping Through the Holidays – Day 1

December 2, 2011 by Rebecca Wagner 22 Comments

Good morning and welcome to day one of the Hopping through the Holidays blog hop.  I hope you are ready for some really terrific ideas from really terrific ladies!  We will be giving away some really cool prizes (can I say really enough?), stay tuned after the project for details.  If you are coming here from Bee’s blog, you are on track.  If not, go here to start at the beginning at the other Bee’s blog. (I know, I get just as confused as you guys ^__^)

For the first day, I thought I would show something so simple and so beautiful to dress up your house for the Christmas season.  A holiday charger!  It was one of the projects from the Nutcrackers in November challenges at the Make the Cut forum. The only requirement really (there’s that word again) was that the project had to be done using the Make the Cut software.  I had never decorated a charger before.  I had seen them, love them but thought it was going to be too hard to do.  I didn’t want to fuss with trying to wrap the text around a plate, let alone if the design had swirls.  I always do everything crooked.  It drives my husband crazy.  Everything always looks so straight to me when I make it but it turns out I placed whatever it was all lop-sided.

With the text to wrap function in Make the Cut, it is a piece of cake.  All I had to do was make a 9″ circle with the basic shapes and grab my text (which I already brought to the mat) and hold the control button along with the left mouse button.  When the cursor changes, let go of both keys and the text will wrap around your shape.  Fix the text, how it looks best to you, in the settings, hit OK and it’s done.  Then just delete the circle.

One thing you have to remember is when you bring your text in, make sure it is split by glyph or it won’t wrap nicely.  With the wrap to text feature, I can make a few of these babies in a day.  I used white matte outdoor vinyl with just plain contact paper as transfer tape.  The second charger is for my mother-in-law (who forgot it at my house on Thanksgiving!).  You can’t tell very well by the picture but it is a reddish-orange color.  So pretty.

Since I made the Boughs of Holly file myself, it will be at the end of this post after the giveaway information to download if you would like.  Hope you enjoyed my little project, come back tomorrow to see what else I have for you.  Now the really (this is getting ridiculous) good stuff, the giveaway.

First, I would like to thank our lovely hostess of the hop – Belinda of Bee’s Hive O’ Drama.  She also has provided my prize from her little patch of SVG heaven here on the interwebs – SVGs by Bee.

To be eligible to win the $5 gift certificate to SVGs by Bee, simply do the following:

1.  Become a follower here on my blog and leave a comment telling me your favorite Christmas memory (be sure to include a way for me to contact you)
2.  For a second entry, “like” The Happy Card Encouragement Factory on Facebook and leave another comment telling me you did so

That’s it.  I will be drawing a winner next Monday, December 5th, so be sure to check back to see if you won!

Now on to your next blop – it’s the adorable Melanie of In Love with a Bug.  Be sure to show her some love!  Oh, before I forget, if you wanted the Deck the Halls design, just visit my Die-Cuts page. It is all the way toward the bottom.

Have a great day and happy crafting!

I remember you chargers from the challenges at the Make the Cut Forum. Beautiful!

One of my favorite holiday memories is taking our son for a ride to see all the holiday lights and for him not to be afraid. He is a special needs child and is so afraid of the dark. 2 years ago, he finally enjoyed the lights without being afraid.

Foil lovers... we heard you. Since our foil equi Foil lovers... we heard you.

Since our foil equipment went down, the messages and emails have not stopped. We know how much you love the look and honestly we love it too.

Replacing commercial foil equipment runs into the tens of thousands of dollars and, like a lot of small businesses right now, that's just not realistic.

After months of testing with our existing setup, we think we found a way to bring foil back.

It's not mass factory perfect. Occasionally there may be a tiny spot where the foil doesn't pull 100%. Nothing obvious, nothing we wouldn't personally use, and nothing that doesn't meet our standards will ship.

But overall? We think it looks pretty gorgeous.

Before we officially bring foil back…

Would you still want it knowing it's handcrafted and not machine perfect?

Tell me honestly in the comments. Your feedback will decide this one.

Personal Size planners get a bad rap for one reaso Personal Size planners get a bad rap for one reason…

They’re narrow.

And I get it.
Personal is the perfect middle ground. Bigger than Pocket, fits in your purse, but way more portable than A5.

But the width?
That’s always been the complaint.

Lately I’ve been seeing people try to squeeze Personal Wide into standard Personal binders… and then wonder why the pages stick out.

So instead of making it wider… I went the other direction.

Foldouts.

For 2026, I reworked the layout to give you more planning space without changing the footprint.

Month on one page
Straight into your weekly
Dashboard space (because you know I had to keep that)
And when it’s folded?
Standard Personal Size. Fits your binder like it should.

Now I need your opinion before I finalize this…
