Let It Snow Mini Sign

Now, I know I have told you before I am terrible at lettering by hand. Hopefully with this project it will not take away from the over all enjoyment for my fellow crafters. Even though my hand writing stinks, I think my little sign is adorable. Perfect for that friend who is into the country chic look to hang on her door or kitchen window.

My sign was very easy to make. Let me show you how to make one of your own with supplies you may already have in your craft room.

First, pick a sheet of your favorite paper. I like to use the 6x6 pads as they have a small pattern print on them. Which is perfect for a small scale project like this. Next grab some 20 gauge craft wire, glue, 4 craft sticks with the ends cut off, and finally a few different flavors of markers. I have my trusty Kuretake ZIG! Writer in black, Wink of Stella, and Calligraphy Metallic pens to add shimmer, shine and depth to the sentiment. Each one of these pens can be found together in the Memory System Starter Set for maximum value.

On the backside of your paper, glue all sticks down. Make sure you put a bead of glue on the edge of the stick so it will adhere to the stick above. Once dry, trim the paper to the size of the sticks.

After daubing the edges with ink to give an aged look, I penciled in my sentiment. I used the pencil before because I just don't trust my handwriting. Then take your Writer (using the 1.2 mm side) once you like how it looks and trace. Going over and thickening the lines where you want to add a little more style. I traced again with the Wink of Stella pen to make the black shimmer, then added depth to the letters with the silver Calligraphy Metallic pen.

To get my mini sign to hang, I punched a hole on each side. Thread the wire through and twist the ends to keep them secure.

I finished it off with a few buttons to match the paper. It would also look cute with a couple die cut snowflakes, don't you think? Well, there you have it, a mini Christmas sign to hang. It won't need anything too strong either, as it's very light.

Thanks for stopping by, hope you liked today's project. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions. Have a great day and happy crafting!

Merry Christmas Cards

Merry Christmas! I hope you had a very good one with lots of crafty goodies under the tree. We are on our way to my husband's family so I have to make this quick. Lesley and the girls at Trendy Twine decided to whip up some twiney goodness for today to celebrate. If you are stopping by my blog first, make sure you head over to Twine It Up to see the whole team's Christmas crafts.

I made a set of eight cards from a nice gift ScrappyDew sent me for leaving a cutter review on his website. As soon as I saw them I knew just what to do. Without further ado, here are my mellow cards.

Well, that's it for me. I have a dinner to attend. Have a great Christmas and happy crafting!

Joy Tile with Kurecolor Inks

I must be in the sign making mood. This is my second one and totally different from the first. If I think of this season in only one word, it is definitely "joy." The gently falling snow and Christmas trees with brightly colored lights everywhere you look. That's what this project reminds me of. The glowing pink, blue, and violet lights that twinkle in frosty windows this time of year that are breathtaking.

You will need a 4x4 white glossy tile, ribbon, glue for ribbon, and the "joy" mask in vinyl. I forgot to take a picture of my supplies. I apologize for that. I am going to have to start at the first step. The tiles are easily found in any home improvement store. You can purchase them in a case or singly if you just want to try this technique out.

Since I want my word to pop, I used my Kurecolor Ink in Pink (225) and added a few drops to the felt on my homemade alcohol ink applicator. I just dabbed on the ink till I achieved my desired look.

My tile after I put the mask down. It was hard to capture the vinyl on camera. The great thing about Kurecolor Inks are that they dry almost instantly. So the mask can go on right away, no waiting.

Next, I inked up the felt with Blue (317) and Violet (607) and dabbed away again over the mask. Wait a moment for the ink to dry to see if you want or need to cover any areas. When it was to my liking, I pulled up the vinyl.

I didn't have any ribbon to match so I used a white grosgrain dyed with the pink ink. The ribbon will take a little longer than the tile to dry. When it was dry, I glued it to the back of my tile so it will hang. That's it! Pretty much instant cute gratification.

Questions? Comments? Want to leave some love? Do so below. That makes us crafty bloggers very happy. It's kinda like crack. LOL

Have a great day and happy crafting!

Jack Frost in Twine

With the way I made ol' Jack's eyes, I might be talking about the horror movie, Jack Frost. Haha I should have tried to make him less demented looking. Maybe googly eyes would have softened his features. Oh my, just thinking about him with spinning eyes is cracking me up!

This month's Trendy Twine spotlight color is Candy Cane and Holly Berry. I choose to use the Candy Cane twine for Jack here because it has a bit of white in it. I just thought I would try something different with my twine. I like to use twine in totally new ways then just making a bow and putting it on a card. There is nothing wrong with that (probably going to do that with my Christmas cards), I just like to push the envelope on what twine can be used for. Not every idea works out. The project I was making before Jack here should be on Pinterest Fails...seriously.

I drizzled his hat with glitter glue to simulate frost and snow. To make Jack was pretty simple. I just wrapped twine around three different sized Styrofoam balls. Stabbed some wire arms into the sides not forgetting to give him his buttons and facial features too. That's pretty much all there is to making this little guy. Speaking of little, he is less than 5" tall.  He's my baby Jack.

So, is he cute? Or is he on his way to star in his own horror movie? LOL Have a great day and happy crafting!

2013 Full Size Planner

Good Monday, everyone! I have a quick post for you today to show off the very first planner I made with my own little hands. I have an obsession with calendars and planners. My Pastor's wife keeps telling me to use my phone it's easier, but even for a techno-geek like me, I still love the smell of paper and ink. Jotting something down as soon as I think about it. So this project was perfect. Too bad I made it to give away as my grab bag gift at our annual Ladies Banquet. Funny story, my sister-in-law went with me too and I told her to make sure she didn't get my gift as I didn't think she would like it. I showed her after a sweet lady won it. Now I am making one for her. LOL Sis-in-law thought it was awesome.

One of the best things about making my planner was I finally got to use my "The Cinch" machine. Amazing little bugger! Now I am a binding fool. I keep looking around for other things I can put under the knife just so I can use it again.  Looks like many more of these planners are in the works for me. I did struggle with making the planner as big as I did. Thinking others would prefer a smaller one but everyone really wanted one in this size. It's a full 8.5" x 11". Go figure. I may make mine a tad smaller.

Echo Park Paper "For the Record" collection was the used for the front, back and tabs. I purchased the 2013 Planner with Add Ons and 2013 Planner Cover and Tabs SVG set from Lori Whitlock. My six tabs are Monthly, Weekly, Grocery List, Menu, Goals, and To Do.

If I missed anything (writing this with a migraine) you wanted to know, leave a comment and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks for coming by today and happy crafting!

Jingle Hop with Lettering Delights

Welcome, welcome to the Jingle Hop hosted by Lettering Delights. Where we are "jingling" around the clock from December 5 - 7! We have for you lots of inspiration, freebies, and a chance to win a KNK Zing! Super awesome, huh? Let me tell you how it works. Start on the Jingle Hop Christmas Idea Swap page first (if you haven't already) and you will get the web addresses for each blog in the hop. Each stop will have a great freebie for you and give you a code. Write down the codes and go back to the Jingle Hop page to enter them in the field. Each code acts as a separate entry to win.

Here is the inspirational line-up:

The Happy Card Encouragement Factory (you are here)

One more important note: You must have an Lettering Delights account to be able to enter your codes. Don't worry, they are free and it's easy to sign up. You can do that here - LD Create an Account.

OK, enough rules, let's get to my project. I decided to use a graphic set and a Cut-It. I love that at LD it's one stop shopping. I love Print n' Cut, but also love being able to paper piece. They have it all!

I took the 12 Days of Christmas graphic set and put them on the back of the Simple Match Boxes. The match boxes have a bonus layer for your electronic die cutting machine if it has the ability to use a pen instead of a blade. I choose the bonus layer with the bird singing. I felt it was perfect compliment for my graphics as it's a song about a partridge. lol Ahh, I love it when a project comes together!

No treat box would be complete with a little sweet. These mint nougat are one of my favorite candies for Christmas. I'm not even a fan of mint normally, but these are so tasty.

These are going to be the cat's meow for the Sunday night kid's class. I love seeing their little faces light up when they see treats. The girls always appreciate the trouble I go through to make their treats extra special. It really touches my heart.

Now the moment you have really been waiting for - the code and freebie!  Lettering Delights was super generous in making the 12 Days into a Cut-It set for me to give away to you as a special thank you for hopping with us this week. Make sure you head over to their Facebook page and say thanks after inputting your code!

KNK ZING! Code - L7hrT
