Sketch It Out

Today I thought I would show you how to make a super simple card and your machine is going to do all the work.  How's that you ask?  Why by using the pen feature on my Boss Kut Gazelle!  If you haven't popped a pen in your Gazzy before, you don't know what you are missing.  It is one of the reasons I purchased a Gazelle.  When I found out you didn't need a special holder and you could use pretty much any size pen, pencil or even a glue pen, I was sold!

I used the new Lettering Delights Rustic Sketches set for my design (see here for more information regarding the sketches).  These sketches are SVG files that are specifically designed to be used in cutting machines with a pen attachment.  I choose the pair of boots from the set.  They looked like Army boots and I thought it would make a great card to celebrate a member of the military coming home.  It took about 7 minutes for my Gazelle to complete the design and I just love the effect.  It looks like a stamp with just a touch of embossing.  It also has a slight texture to it.  Just fabulous!  This would make a great masculine card.  No frills.  I know it’s a pretty simplistic card but you know, sometimes less is more. Which is what I have been craving lately.

I let the machine do its thing again but this time on white cardstock so you could see the detail.  To make sure you get the right height when placing your pen, slide a clean Popsicle stick under the tip, let the pen rest gently on the stick then tighten the screw.  I used a force of 1 and my speed was on 7.  Depending of the medium I use, the speed could go lower.  I just purchased this gel pen so I wanted it to go a little faster.  I didn’t want it to sit in one place to long.  I didn’t know if it was going to flow heavy and puddle up my design or not.  I have some glitter pens that need to go a couple fractions of a second slower to get the ink out on the paper.  Just play around on scratch paper to you get the desired effect for your project.  Another thing, because the Gazelle is not tied to cartridges, I could also let my pink beauty write out my sentiment in any of the fonts I already have on my computer.  More coolness, no?

I thought you might like to see my baby in action, so I made a little video.  It’s just the neatest thing to see your machine sketch something.  Especially a design so intricate.  (Don’t worry, I didn’t tape the whole thing.  Just a little taste of the amazingness ^__^)  If I wanted to, I could make a shadow of the design, put the blade holder back in and have the Gazelle fussy cut it.  So many possibilities.  Can you see them?  Anyway, here’s the video:

Thanks for stopping by and come back again as I have a few more pretty projects for some metallic pens and my Gazelle.  Hope you enjoyed today’s card and got some inspiration for using your machine.  If you in the market for an electronic die-cut machine, hope this showed you what an awesome product this is and has you looking a little closer at the Gazelle.  Have a great day and happy crafting!

Tag Bag

Well, lookie here.  I actually have a Make the Cut forum challenge post up before the durn thing closed.  I must be getting faster...nah....it just was a pretty easy challenge.  Trish made this cute Tag Bag for us all to decorate.  This is perfect when you need a gift bag pretty quick.  I also needed something to put those huge flowers I accidentally purchased.  Note to self, read the product description when ordering online.  I had no idea the flowers were that big.  Oh well, they work fine for this project.

Get why it's called a "tag bag"?  I believe Trish said all she used were basic shapes available in Make the Cut to create the bag.  Even though I home school I still have a need once in a while to make a teacher gift.  My boys have to be evaluated at the end of the school year by a certified teacher who then tells the state if they are on grade level.  So I made a thank you goodie bag for all their hard work.  I thought the papers I used are pretty funny since they are more elementary and my oldest is graduating High School.  heheh

Feels good to be able to get a forum challenge done.  It's been a while.  The last one I actually had time to do was the Bee-utiful Bee card almost a month ago.  Go me!  Hope you all have a early start to your weekend with relaxing and being crafty.  See you next time!

New Baby

Yea, I finally got to make another baby card!  I have been waiting forever for someone to get pregnant so I could try out pretty light colors and plushie things.  LOL  One of my closest friends and faithful blog reader threw a gender reveal party last Saturday (guess who made the decor? hehe).  If you have never heard of a gender reveal party, it's where they announce the sex of the baby through a cake or something else edible.  Sometimes the parents know ahead of time or wait with everyone else.  My friend opted for the latter.  Such anticipation, I tell you.  But stay tuned for more from the party on a later post.  Let me get to her card so you all can move on with your busy lives.

See that embossed font?  Those are two of the new Lettering Delights Thin Fonts that can be used to write with your favorite pen in your electronic die-cut machine and Make the Cut.  I explain in more detail what Thin Fonts are on my blog post from last Thursday.  This time I went a little more daring, I used my Zig Squeeze & Roll glue pen in place of a pen.  It worked beautiful (if you don't squeeze it too much before placing it in the holder).  Came out a little thick but it still is soooo cool to use your glue pen in your machine.  Sky's the limit, I tell ya!

For the inside sentiment, I used one of my favorite sets from one of my favorite stamp companies - My Thoughts Exactly's More Big Thoughts.  I love the font for the Congratulations.  I love the retro look.  The giraffe comes from the Pun Intended graphic set from Lettering Delights that I made into a cut file.  I only wanted it in two pieces so it was pretty quick to do.  I used a interwoven circle stamp with watermark ink to give a slight pattern to the giraffe.  Kind of makes it look like a stuffed animal.

That's all for today.  Hope you enjoyed my new baby card.  Love it?  Please leave a comment.  Hate it?  Keep your thoughts to yourselves.  ;)

Doilies are Dandy

'Allo and welcome back! Come to see my latest project for the great Boss Kut Design Team?  Well, you are in the right place.  I pray you all had a great weekend and are ready for another week of crafting.  Or work as most people do.  LOL  Well, anyway, I have another Mother's Day card for you.  It is that time you know.  Since my mom likes to doily her house up I thought I would use the adorable Heart Doily from Boss Kut Die Cuts.

Isn't it so cute?!?  I think it really takes center stage and really makes the card along with the sentiment.  I was trying for a white doily but just didn't look right.  But who doesn't like pink right?  ;)

I embossed the sentiment and inked the edges of my doily to make them stand out.  The only problem is you can't see the pretty little hearts on the doily.

I had a little left over strip from the paper so I added it to the inside.  It's a little thing but I think it adds another special touch to your card making.  Never think it's isn't appreciated by the recipient.

Not much else to the card.  I have been on a clean and simple kick lately.  Sometimes I think we get sucked into the make it a fancy and frilly as possible when simple is nice too.  And as you can see, with the right die-cuts simple can be elegant too!
Thanks for stopping by and come back again to see more Mother's Day and Spring cards!  Have a great week and happy crafting!!

Thin Fonts Arrive at Lettering Delights!

When Andy of Make the Cut told us someone was in the process of making thin fonts for use with the pen feature on our cutters, I was sooooo excited.  He put the ability to use OPF into the Make the Cut software sometime ago and it has been a waiting game (I figured it was Lettering Delights who was coming out with them ^__^).  If you have no idea what I am talking about, check out Lettering Delights information page.

As of right now, Make the Cut is the only software currently with the ability to use Open Path Fonts.  But if these become popular with crafters, you know other software programs will jump on board.  Just be patient!  I know, better said than done.

Take your creative projects to new heights with Thin Fonts and Sketches from Lettering Delights. These single-line fonts are perfect for drawing and writing using the print feature on most cutting machines using Make-the-Cut software. Learn how>

Thin fonts and doodles are available in sets of 10 for $15 each. Get all 50 new thin fonts and 10 doodles plus the five intricate rustic sketches for $50 in the Crazy for Thin Fonts Super Bundle. Or take a peek at each set and purchase them separately for $15 per set:
Learn more about Thin Fonts here with instructions on how to install and use your thin fonts. Want an even better deal?  Until midnight tonight, get 50% your total purchase.  See my post from yesterday for details - Wild Wednesday.

Butterflies for Mother's Day

Can you guess what I bought and finally got around to using?  Yep, that's right, a Sew Easy.  Want to know what the neatest thing about it is?  It works will Trendy Twine.  Ya buddy!  I won't even go into how much of the wonderous cottony stuff I have but I could probably sew back and forth from here to Montana three times.  LOL

Anyhoo, I am so excited to share with you today some die-cutting treasures for my Boss Kut Design Team project.  I have a super simple but beautiful Mother's Day card.  It's never too early to start on those cards, ladies.  Mother’s Day will be here before you know it!  I will be posting a few more up to the day because I have been asked by some friends to make one for their mothers.    Here's a tip if you want a life, tell very few people you craft.  ^__^

I finally got around to using the adorable Pop Kuts from Boss Kut too.  Let me say, I am thrilled at how great they look!   There is just that certain something they add to a project.  I mean, look at the flower.  Just too stinkin' adorable!

I used the Pop Kut Butterfly which comes two to the set and the Pop Kut Lacy Flower layered onto the Flower Flourish.    I sewed together two pieces of Lost & Found Madison Avenue by My Mind's Eye with Trendy Twine using the Sew Easy.

My Gazelle cut everything like a hot knife through butter.  She can really handle all the details even when they are very small.  Love this machine!  Monica and Boss Kut have some pretty intricate designs that I know I wouldn't be able to cut if my cutter wasn't so awesome.  ;)

I used the leftover hearts from the border to place by the sentiment which is from the Mini Thoughts set.  So, what do you think?  Will my mother enjoy this card?  I think so.  Those butterflies are the cutest thing!

Official Tooth Fairy Visit

It's that time again for another guest design spot at the wonderful A Jillian Vance Design!  I was the lucky winner of her adorable A Tooth Fairy set and what a set it is!  I don't have kids with missing teeth anymore.  They have all their originals now but there are a few nieces that seem to be misplacing their pearly whites left and right.  This stamp set combined with the Dear Tooth Fairy Cut-Its from Lettering Delights go together like peas and carrots.  Take a look at my shaped card.

The cute little ribbon does not come in the Cut-Its, I hand cut the ribbons and the scallop was made with basic shapes in Make the Cut.  So the next time one of my nieces loses a tooth, I have a card ready to put a little something in for them.  Hope you enjoyed my card today and see you next week!

Supplies:
WorldWin DoubleMates in Totally Tan for base
Tooth Fairy stamp set from A Jillian Vance Design
