Gingerbread Chalet Village - Free Gift

Start decking the halls with an adorable Gingerbread Chalet Village!  Get yours ready for the holiday season and get started making some for some special family and friends.  Use them as illuminated lanterns with an electronic LED tealight inside, or use them as little gift boxes (or both)!  Each chalet stands about 5.5″ tall but can be made as tall as about nine inches tall.  All five projects can be made as-pictured on any mat size, except for the envelope that fits the card, which is too small to fit on a 12×6 mat.

You also get a cute little cracker, perfect for holding a few little treats.  Place one at each place setting at a holiday dinner or luncheon, or make lots of them for classmates or colleagues.  (Great for using up random pieces of leftover holiday paper!)  You also get the adorable Baking Card with envelope and can easily use any of the elements from it separately on other projects.  If you have the Gingerbread Kisses stamp set from Punkin Patch Stamps, the “NOEL” stamp fits perfectly on the tag, but you can also create the tag plain and stamp your own message or design.

How to get Gingerbread Chalet Village Free:

  • Visit www.SVGCuts.com and make a purchase of $9.98 or more between now and Wednesday, November 2nd 2011.
  • Add Gingerbread Chalet Village SVG Kit to your cart.

Pumpkin Surprise

Hey everyone.  I finally have a new project up and just in time for Trendy Twine's pumpkin challenge.  Actually, that challenge is what made me get off my butt and make something.  Nothing like a giveaway to stir the creative juices, huh?

Lesley's requirements were to use a pumpkin or Jack-O-Lantern with some sort of twine on your project.  I think this cute little guy qualifies.  I used a pumpkin from SVG Attic's Pick a Pumpkin set.

I choose the skinner, taller pumpkin for a couple of different reasons.  First, I like this face as it reminds the hubby of me when I get out of bed in the morning.  Getting old and all that, seeing as I just turned 38 this past Sunday.  Oh, my aching back!

Here is a shot of my clever use of twine.  o_O  I thought Trendy Twine's Orange Truffle for Thanksgiving would be cute to use for the stem.  What do you think?  Like it?

The second reason I wanted the taller pumpkin was so I could stash my goodie in there.  Yep, this is a dual-purpose Halloween card.  Closed, it is an adorable card, open it's girl's dream come true - free chocolate.  I just took the pumpkin with all the elements and the inside treat holder piece and sized it up 150%.  That way all pieces would fit together perfectly.

I did use one of My Thoughts Exactly's Ghostly Greetings for the sentiment but I forgot to stamp before taking pictures.  There's that old brain not working again.  I also thought the candy bar needed some bondage.  The end flaps had to stay down to fit into the card and make tacking it to the base easier as there is no bottom.

The middle treat holder piece came from Michelle.  Her's was coffin shaped and for our treat holder challenge at the Make the Cut forum.  In her file, the coffin and middle piece are separate.  I just took that piece and added my pumpkin.

You can get more details over at Michelle's blog and download the file.   Go check her out, she is crafty and generous!  Michelle is also part of our awesome team for the Nutcrackers in November challenge.  For two weeks in November, there will be 11 challenges.  You guys need to go head over there and scope it out, we have some AMAZING sponsors.  Join the forum and be sure to enter as many challenges as you like.

Hope you to see you all there and happy crafting!

Another Crafty Re-Do

Hey everyone and a big shout out to all the new followers.  Thanks for hanging with me and checking out my crafty projects!  It thrills me that anyone would follow me to check out my newbie craftiness and goofy ranting.  You all must be a few fries short of a Happy Meal like me!  Hahaha, just kidding, well, not about me but you guys.  How sweet you all are for joining me here.  Loves ya!!

Today, I just wanted to share a little project I did to restyle my old, beat up knife holder.  Lame, huh?  I was bored and really wanted something to use my husband's Multi-Maxon.  So no wood was safe from me.

First, if I wanted to stain it a different color I had to get off the sealer so it would take color.  Thank goodness the wood is light so I didn't have to sand all day.  I did go a little deeper on the front here.  You can see all the misses when putting the knives back.  Looks like we were mad at it!

The color I chose was Red Spice from Apple Barrel mixed with a little water for a stain look.  Why red?  Because that is my accent color in my kitchen and also my favorite color.  Any red will do.  I needed it to be a little darker to match but I really don't care.  I like it!

Yes, yes, I know I am a messy painter.  My husband came by and started to freak when he saw my splatters.  Red dyes are strong, he says.  I said it's acrylic paints, they wash up with water.  Guess who won that argument?  Me!  Because I hurried and wiped up the mess so he wouldn't be.  Haha!  I love him but he can't win any argument. Never!

After the paint is dry, a couple of coats of a glossy sealer keeps everything nice.  The block sits next to the stove so I wanted it to be easy to wipe off.  Any old sealer will do I would think.  I didn't use a food grade one.  Do you think I should have, seeing as they will touch food?  Did I just poison all of us?  If you see me not blogging for a few weeks, alert the authorities and tell them what happened!

Here it is finished.  What do you all think?  The silver is a little much against the red for my eyes right now.  I am sure I will get used to it though.  I just love red so much I don't care.  Muahahahaha

Sorry for the picture overload but I wanted to show the finish up close.  I can't believe I got it that smooth.  I think I'm gonna like it.  Any excuse to sand, paint and color my world red, I'm for it.

Now I need to find an excuse to use the new Dremel 4000rotary tool my hubby bought for my birthday.  Yep, no flowers and candy for this girl, give me power tools and a new processor and RAM any day of the week.  Really?!?  You didn't know I was weird already?  Well, now you do!

This week is almost over so I will wish you a great weekend!  *Waves to all the new and old ladies* Thanks for coming by!  Wait, that came out wrong.  Old?!? I need a new word, ancient?  No, mature?  That still doesn't sound right.  How about veteran?  Yeah, that's what we will go with, veteran followers.  Goodbye to all you new and veteran followers, have a great weekend and happy crafting!!

Stamping Away!

For my projects today, I decided to make a few cards. My friend Trish started a challenge over at the Make the Cut forum.  She provided the files and we were asked to come up with something crafty.   I have the Tender Thoughts by A Jillian Vance Designs stamp set and when I saw the files, the first thing that popped in my head was a monotone background.  Something demure and simple, that really showcases the stamps.  Makes the sentiment the focal point of the card.

My original intention was just two cards.  When I cut the honeycomb pattern out in American Crafts “Play” line paper, I loved the negative too.  So I decided to make another card.  The white card stock is Georgia Pacific in 67 lb.   The ribbons were just a pack I picked up at Hobby Lobby, can’t remember the brand.

Thank you for coming by and taking a look.  Hope you enjoyed my project for today.  Have a great day and happy crafting!

Upcycled Frame

Hello all! I am back today with a project I have been wanting to finish for a while. Don't know why I took soon long when it was a super easy and fast re-do.  Not really an upcycle but a re-use I guess.

I had this beautiful frame that was left to me when my grandmother passed away.  Gram actually had a few that were similar and they remind me so much of her.  She was a big Home Interiors kinda girl so her house was always so fancy with ornate frames and candle holders.  LOL  Such great memories of visiting there every weekend.  I needed to get a picture in this frame!

Seeing as this is going to hang in my dining room that has an Italian feel to it, I headed to The Graphics Fairy on an image hunt.  She has an amazing amount of vintage, copyright free images - Italian, French, historical, you name it, she has it.  You can get lost there for a whole day.

I settled on the grape image above.  It is simple and elegant.  I printed my image on a Square1 Masterpiece adhesive fabric sheet.  I did this because the old glass is pretty cloudy and riddled with chips.  After printing my image I simple stuck it to the top of the glass.  It came out even better than I imagined because the fabric absorbs ink very well and has soft feel to it.

I tell you these pictures do not do this justice.  I was a little worried about the image I picked.  I mean how good can just grapes look?  Well, they look good!  You can't tell by my cruddy photography skills but it has a slight browning around the edges.  Makes it look real vintage.  Don't know why my camera didn't pick it up.  Stupid flash!

I used the best quality and premium photo paper settings for my printer.  I wanted to really saturate the sheet.  It took about 15 minutes to dry and the colors came out fabulous.  So deep and rich!  I can't tell you how happy I am with how this came out.  It looks like a purchased canvas painting.

The wall I have it hanging on in this picture is not it's final resting place.  I just had better indoor light here.  The wall where it now hangs is more of a deep wine color, looks much better there, let me tell you!  I really need to invest in an external flash or better lighting so indoor pictures come out better.  My craft is killing my pocket book.  ^__^

Fang-tastic Blog Hop Winner!

Wow, what an amazing hop!  What'd you all think?  So exciting and now I get to have even more fun by picking out a winner!  But first, let me show you another project I made for my Associate Pastor and his lovely wife.

I made another pumpkin and monogram tile.  When Sarah saw the pumpkins I made for the church, she fell in love.  Her husband came over with a blank pumpkin and asked if I would decorate it for his wife.  What a great husband!  How many do you know that would run out to Michaels (he took my youngest with him so he would know what to buy LOL) just because his wife mentioned she liked something.  Also, on top of the pumpkin, you can see my first attempt at making my own crinkle ribbon.  Didn't come out too bad if I do say so myself.  It would probably help if I had ever seen crinkle ribbon in person to compare with.  o_O

I had an extra tile laying around and thought I would make that too.  They just moved up here and don't have a lot of decor yet.  Besides, who doesn't like getting personalized gifts.  I know I do.  I just haven't made anything for our house yet.  And don't they have just the best last name for this time of the year?!?  I told Caleb it would be cooler if his first name was Edgar and his middle Allen.  LOL

Oh well, I guess you all really came here to see who won the $10 gift certificate to SVGs by Bee, huh? Drum roll, please!  The winner is #11 - Eva!  I will be emailing you the details soon.  Congrats and thanks to you and all my new followers for entering and coming by the see everyone's great projects.  Hope to see you hang around a while.
